City of Clare

Fire

The Clare Fire Department covers 108 square miles that include all of the City of Clare, Grant Township, Sheridan Township and a portion of both Vernon and Wise Townships.

The Fire Department receives 1.1 mills from the City of Clare, Grant, Sheridan, Vernon and Wise Townships. This is our operating fund, we do not receive any money from the City’s general fund.

The City has a current ISO (Insurance Services Office) rating of 4 (on a scale of 1 – 10) within five miles of the Fire Station and a 9 outside of this radius but still within our fire coverage area. This rating was achieved in 2009. The lower the rating, the lower your insurance premiums will be.

The Fire Department is advised by the Fire Council which is comprised of Township Supervisors, the City Manager, the Mayor, the Fire Chief and a non-ranking Fire Fighter.

Junior Firefighter Academy; Honoring the Life of Firefighter Ethan Gage

February 5, 2019: The City of Clare Fire Department mourns a highly-respected member of the force. Training Officer Ethan Gage’s life was tragically cut short in an accident earlier this week. As a result, Mayor Humphrey issued a proclamation recognizing February 6 as a day of recognition and mourning in the City, and directing flags on City-owned property to be flown at half mast. Please click here to view the proclamation.
